Naturally Reduce Moderate Neck Pain Caused by a Car Accident

Posted on

Moderate neck pain that is a result of a car accident can make it difficult for you to complete daily tasks. Use the following natural pain-reduction methods as well all of the advice that is provided to you during chiropractic care provided by a licensed chiropractor. By doing so, you will be well on your way to healing and no longer experiencing discomfort.

Heat Packs and Elevation

Heat will reduce soreness in your neck area and may assist with reducing inflammation. If you combine heat therapy with elevation, you will remain comfortable, and blood will continue to flow smoothly through the injured area. Purchase a gel heat pack that is microwavable or make your own homemade pack. Fill a tube sock with dried beans or rice, but do not overfill it because that will make the sock difficult to bend. Tie a knot in the end of the sock to prevent the beans or rice from falling out of it.

Heat up the gel pack or homemade pack inside of a microwave for a minute or two. Wrap the item securely around your neck. Place a couple of thick pillows on your bed or couch before lying back and allowing the heat to soothe your muscles. Once either heating implement cools down, reheat it by tossing it into the microwave again. Use a heat pack and pillows whenever you are distracted by pain.

Massage Using Essential Oils

Treat yourself to a massage that uses some of your favorite essential oils. Essential oils emit pleasant scents that can help you relax while a massage is being performed. A massage will reduce tightness in your neck area and may encourage you to focus on the massaging techniques rather than the discomfort in your neck area.

If you cannot afford a professional massage, ask a loved one if they will give you a massage. Set up a couch or bed to lie on and dim the lights in the room. Purchase a small bottle of one of your favorite essential-oil varieties prior to the session. Listen to soft music in the background during the massage to help you remain relaxed.

Capsaicin Cream

Capsaicin is found in chili and cayenne peppers as well as several other pepper varieties and is the reason for the hotness that is experienced when these peppers are eaten. Capsaicin cream is a product that can assist with blocking pain. When applied to skin, a slight burning sensation will be experienced. This sensation will numb muscles, allowing you to focus on something other than the neck injury.

Apply a small amount of capsaicin cream to your fingertips. Knead your neck's exterior until you are no longer feeling discomfort. Add more cream to the injury whenever you are experiencing pain that is making it difficult for you to concentrate on anything else.
